180 Seconds to Change a Life
At Social Venture Partners Fast Pitch Final
April 15, 2015 – 12 local nonprofits have spent the past eight weeks preparing for 180 seconds that will greatly impact their organizations. Each nonprofit will present their “Dragon’s Den”-style pitch to a panel of celebrity judges for a chance to win $25,000 in cash and prizes.
The Fast Pitch competition will take place Thursday, April 16 at the Wright Theatre at Mount Royal University. It is the third annual event, hosted by Social Venture Partners and sponsored by the Imperial Oil Foundation that connects corporate Calgary coaches with nonprofits to develop their marketing and pitching skills.
“All the teams have worked tremendously hard to get to this stage,” commented SVP’s Executive Connector, Karen Whiteman. “The event will be a showcase of some amazing nonprofits here in Calgary giving it everything they’ve got.”
At the end of the presentations audience members will have the opportunity to text vote for their favorite "pitch" and determine the winner of the Audience Choice Award while the judges determine the winner of the judges’ award. This year’s panel of judges includes Kara Lilly, Investment Strategist at Mawer, Mike Morrison, writer of the well-known Mike’s Bloggity Blog, and Ken Lima-Coelho, passionate storyteller with over 20 years’ experience in broadcasting, brand development and the arts.
Masters of ceremony will be Renee Amber, improviser at the Loose Moose Theatre and Andrew Phung, the winner of the inaugural Fast Pitch event with Youth Central.
