Social Venture Partners Calgary Announces 2016 Fast Pitch Finalists
November 1, 2016 – Social Venture Partners Calgary (“SVPC”) is pleased to announce Accessible Housing, Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth, Calgary Keys to Recovery Society, Highbanks Society, HIV Community Link, Made by Momma, Siksika White Buffalo Preventative Social Services and Simon House Recovery Centre have advanced to the 2016 Fast Pitch Finals. The Finals are taking place on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Telus Spark.
SVPC Fast Pitch is a free, two-month training and mentoring program for innovative non-profits that are targeting social change in Calgary. Over the course of two months, these non-profit leaders work with volunteer business coaches on how to succinctly and powerfully tell their story.
The eight non-profit finalists each have three minutes to share the mission, vision, promise and model of their organization to a panel of local, celebrity judges and a sold-out crowd of 350 as they compete for $25,000 in grants and prizes. Following the presentations, judges and audience members vote for their favourite pitch.
The line up of local celebrity judges includes Jeremy Bryant, co-Founder of Mealshare and 2014 Fast Pitch winner; Evan Hazell, a 30 year veteran of the oil and gas industry, and board member of multiple for profit and non-profit organizations; and Susan Veres, Senior Vice-President of the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC), which is responsible for the re-development of Calgary’s East Village.
Ken Lima-Coelho, passionate storyteller with over 20 years experience in broadcasting, brand development and the arts, will act as the Master of Ceremonies. Former World Cup skier and 1992 Olympic gold medalist, Kerrin Lee-Gartner will provide the Keynote address on facing demanding situations in a spirited and resilient way.
“Fast Pitch is a unique opportunity for non-profits to have unfettered access to volunteer, business professionals and amplify their organizations impact” says Lindsay Read, Executive Director, SVP Calgary. “The Fast Pitch program perfectly aligns with SVP’s overall vision of an engaged community that builds capacity in innovative non-profits.”
Since 2012, SVPC Fast Pitch has awarded non-profit organizations with over $100,000 in grants and prizes as well as thousands of hours of coaching from local, business professionals. Following their involvement with Fast Pitch, participant organizations often achieve further growth, investment, sponsorship and increased public awareness.
